The History of MegaMan
It all started in 1987. Capcom released what was soon to be on of their
most popular series in existence. The first game, RockMan wasn't
exactly a hit during its time, due to it's box art being "ugly" or "not appealing".
However, later titles (mainly RockMan 2) sold very well, and were
very popular in both US and Japan. Due to "rock" being a slang word for
crack cocaine at the time, the name MegaMan was decided on by Capcom
of America (CoA). Japan, and many other countries of course stuck
with the original name. Keji Inafune, the co-father of
RockMan seems to find the name MegaMan silly, and pointless. Others
found the name more suitable for our blue bomber.
One of the things about RockMan (MegaMan) that interested some
people the most was the fact that he looked very similar to
Astro Boy, the protagonist of a manga created in 1952.
Rumors of this began to spread. It was very obvious, since not only
did RockMan look like Astro Boy, but even thir names were similar. After this
case was argued, Capcom eventually admitted to using Astro Boy as
a reference when creating RockMan.
